ABΔΩ Represents at Divine Nine Souper Bowl

ABΔΩ participated in the Divine Nine Souper Bowl, a Greater Chicago Food Depository Repack event on February 10, 2024. Volunteers helped to repack donated and purchased food. Joined by sororities and fraternities of the Chicago National Pan-Hellenic Council, ABΔΩ members embraced the spirit of "the big game" to make an even bigger impact on our Chicago neighbors in need. Special thanks to Sister Monique Batteast, Corporate Relations Manager at the Greater Chicago Food Depository for the invitation to join this impactful community outing.

ABΔΩ Pink Goes Red is a Resounding Success

On Sunday February 4th, 2024, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Alpha Beta Delta Omega Chapter hosted its annual Pink Goes Red at West Suburban Health Center in Oak Park, IL. The event had well over 130 guests in attendance. The month of February serves as American Heart Month where people, especially women, are encouraged to focus on cardiovascular healthy practices. This year’s event included the important relationship, and the direct influence, of oral health on heart health. Our Pink Goes Red event provided a platform to educate, engage and enlighten participants. ABDO members, Dr. Carolyn Fitzpatrick and Dr. Brenda Taylor, presented on Heart and Oral Health. Chef John Holden, Owner Proper Preps, LLC, prepared two salt free recipes and provided information on herbs, spices and oils that promote heart health. Charrise Gordon, Owner Toast, Inc., prepared a fresh energy drink, as well as a fruit and vegetable smoothy using fresh fruits, vegetables, and sugar substitutions. The event concluded with a fitness exercise led by Shonda Story of BFitness, Oak Park, IL.

ABΔΩ organizes its signature Pay-It-Forward program in honor of Dr. MLK Day

On January 14, 2024, Alpha Beta Delta Omega Chapter hosted our annual Pay-it-Forward event with a vibrant community turnout. Teaming up with Chicago Jesuit Academy, Facing Forward, and Chicago Street Medicine, our chapter addressed critical needs for our unhoused neighbors in the Northwest and West Chicago neighborhoods. Despite the frigid weather, more than 200 dedicated volunteers participated in packing more than 300 bags containing winter-weather clothing and toiletries. Additionally, the volunteers prepared more than 50 transitional-housing baskets to support families starting anew. Each basket was thoughtfully curated with essential home goods including towels, detergent, kitchen supplies, and more.
